Tri-Chicas The 1st Triathlon Exclusive for Women in Puerto Rico!

By Lynn Ponder: Did you know that March is Women’s History Month WEPA! Well Vive Deportes a sports oriented organization in Puerto Rico does and has created a special event exclusively for women to participate. It evolves around promoting better health and the concept is called Tri-Chicas = Tri-Girls!

Tri-Chicas is the first of its kind in Puerto Rico and lead by renown marathoner Yolanda Mercado who holds the national mark of the 2007 London marathon creating a record achievement of 2:44:50. One of Yolanda’s most dear to her heart causes and mission is to end with the high index of domestic violence in Puerto Rico and part of the inscription costs of this event will be donated to a non-profit organization called {Coordinadora Paz Para La Mujer} which helps abused women.

This wonderful event has the seal of approval of several Puerto Rican government offices like “Procuradora de las Mujeres, Comite Olimpico y Federacion de Triatlon de Puerto Rico”.

Tri-Chicas has 3 stages: Swimming distance 750 meters, Biking distance 20km and 5km race pedrestre. Women participating have the choice to create different teams of relay or to compete individually.

Mark your calendars for March 4 starting at 4pm in La Guancha in a beautiful city called Ponce. If you live in Puerto Rico this is one event you will want to be a part of!
