Hi! I’m Niani Tolbert, a new fashion contributor for the Web City Girls! I am also the blogger behind the The Fierce Fantasy, a fashion blog focused on a behind-the-scenes point of view of the fashion industry/ events and local emerging fashion talents and boutiques. It seems as though the fashion section has been on a drought, so hopefully I can relieve your fashion hunger with 5 trends that can make your outfit POP!
You can never go wrong with a classic denim. Chambray, a dyed and manipulated cotton top look like denim makes having the denim-y look light and comfortable. It’s really useful for this summer’s heat!
How to style it: To tie or not to tie? Most Chambray shirts have the option of tying the tail or keeping it down. I’ve found it best to choose depending on the length of the bottoms. If you have shorts, make up te fabric by keeping the tail down. If you have something long with lots of fabric such as a Maxi skirt, tie the shirt up.
Pair it with printed shorts, caramel, or create an “oh oh oreo” effect by pairing it with colored denim. How cute would it be to have your regular colored tee and jeans-reversed?
Whether it’s a tail on a shirt or a maxi peeka-booing just over your knees, asymmetric styles add a bit more style to conservative looks.
How to style it: This style works best when you don’t overthink it. . It should be a subtle surprise, not in-your-face, so style it the way you would if it weren’t asymmetrical.
Mini skirts, Maxi skirts and even dresses, the pleated details are everywhere this summer! Pleats are an easy way to make a look elegant, and it’s a plus that it looks beachy and summery while flowing in the wind.
How to style it: I like to edge the pleats up by throwing on a baggy-ish tee, but you can keep it classic with a classic button down. If you want to push the envelope but keep the classic feel, a studded collar on the button down is the way to go!
Sheer: Don’t get turned off just yet! Sheer doesn’t necessarily need to be seductive but can be classy when styled correctly.
How to style it: Wear a colored cami under a sheer shirt or layer it over a neon to tone it down. If you want to be more daring, a printer bandeau bra under a sheer shirt is both sexy and trendy.
A touch of neon makes eyes stare and makes you ooze confidence. How can you not when you know you’re about to wear a fluorescent color that screams “look at me!”
How to style it: Neon is already an in-your-face thing to wear, so don’t wear something that will clash with it.
1. Stick to primary colors when styling it
2. Tone it down by wearing a sheer cover-up
Just incorporate a pop of neon with neon jewelry/ accessories. A cool DIY (do it yourself) for a pop of neon jewelry is shown at Capture fashion.
Which trends will you try this summer?
