By Lynn Ponder: You can feel the Olympic London 2012 adrenaline in the air and as a matter of fact I was invited to Telemundo’s Press Conference to announce the amazing coverage they will be performing from July 25 to August 12, which includes compelling stories and behind the scenes of our Latino athletes journey to achieving their dreams.
Our life is surrounded by advertising but when a brand focuses on the emotional side and demonstrates that they really care, it is worthy and “amerita reconocimiento”. I gladly signed up to write a post about P&G Oral Care Olympics campaign as they have partnered with some of the most amazing moms behind the Olympic athletes. Today, I want to talk about Ondina Lopez who immigrated from Nicaragua to the United States with her family and kept the latino family values alive by speaking Spanish at home and cooking our super ricooo latino food.
Ondina has four children, Steven, Jean, Mark and Diana who were inspired by older son passion for Taekwondo and became the world elite level in Taekwondo. Steven, Mark and Diana made history when they each won gold at the 2005 World Taekwondo Championships, becoming the first three siblings in any sport to claim World Championship titles at the same event.
I had the opportunity to share a conference call with other latina bloggers, where we asked Ondina Lopez questions about what it meant to her to raise Olympians and the importance of being a supportive mother.
I felt that Ondina was inspiring, honest and humble throughout the call and I learned what I already knew from my Mom which is that Mother’s signify unconditional love and will do anything to further our dreams as well as guide us to be the best people we can be to society.
Ondina as a Mom and as my Mom did when my sister and I were growing up, sacrificed a lot to give us a solid education, daily care, motivation and reassurance that we could make our dreams come true with hard work and determination.
During the call among many questions that were asked one related directly to sports was; what advice would she give other families that have high hopes for their children to be Olympians and she answered: Give them lots of love and reassure them that what they do is great and support them every step of the way so they never have thoughts of quitting because you will be there for them unconditionally.
Steven’s Message to his fans with his wonderful supporting Mom Ondina Lopez:
