vassallo Debuts Fall 2013 Collection

By Lynn Ponder: Puerto Rico might be a tiny little island in the Caribbean but we have cultivated extraordinary men and women on the forefront from The Supreme Court of the United States, to Fashion, to Entertainment, delighting millions of people and making a difference for a better world.

Meet one of the latest cultured and talented Puerto Rican, designer Javier Vassallo who kicked-off New York Fashion Week by launching his new line of high-end, sophisticated and feminine clothes that speak to the modern women. Mixing American sportswear with both a Latin and European flavor, Vassallo draws from the apparent duality that mixes both worlds to bring a unique point of view to his designs, one that is at once modern and classic, edgy and feminine.

Designer Javier Vassallo studied in the United States, where he earned degrees in Business Administrtion from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and in Fashion Design at Parson School of Design in NY. Over the past 18 years, Vassallo has worked with some of the most recognizable names in fashion including Monique Lhuillier, J. Mendel, Oleg Cassini and, most notably, Vera Wang. Vassallo spent 9 years at Vera Wang honing his skills as Design Director of the brand’s Lavender Label, a contemporary collection by the famed designer.

For his first collection, Javier Vassallo drew inspiration from the painting La Vision après le Sermon by Paul Gaugin and the book Les Costumes de Bretagne, during a month-long family stay in Brittany, France. I was very proud to attend this show in New York City and I am convinced that he will be one of the most recognized and successful new upcoming US young designers. Retail price point from $250 to $900.

Javier Vassallo fashion show was full of feminine charm, interesting and certainly an original one indeed. Javier used a visual moving platform to present his friends, family and buyers from NYC with his new line of high contemporary clothing including knits, coats, jackets, tops, bottoms and dresses. “It’s all about mix and match,” said Javier Vassallo.
