By Lynn Ponder: Dominican Republic “Lo Tiene Todo | Has It All” slogan is right on! They will keep you and your family thrilled whether its white water river rafting or on a high speed Zip Line through lush tropical mountains to beautiful beaches, clubs, restaurants, shopping, shows and did I say stunning beaches YaY!
Let me tell you about the rest of my experience at the amazing island Dominican Republic. Our road trip took us to Bayahibe a town located 10 miles from La Romana which serves as an embarkation point for boat tours to Saona Island, a thinly inhabited island with extensive beaches located in a national park. Luckly, our schedule included a boat trip to the stunning Saona Island and it was all about fun in the sun where we got body massages on the beach and drank some President, the national beer. Our ride back was in a catamaran party boat where we danced and engaged with tourists from Europe and the US. Dominicans are very “cariñosos”, friendly and know how to entertain an audience!
Punta Cana with beaches facing both the Caribbean and Atlantic became our home for the next two marvelous days. They also have their own International Airport and are a mega popular destination since the 1970’s. Oscar de la Renta and Julio Iglesias have private homes in Punta Cana. RIU Hotels hosted us for two nights and it was a fabulous experience. The food, beaches, service and entertainment were first-rate.
We got to visit Paradisus Hotel, one of my personal favorites located in one of the most prestigious corners of Punta Cana. They are an eco-conscious green resort and that ROCKS! Lunch was superb and truly would love to stay here someday!
Last hotel visit was to recently renovated Barcelo Bávaro Beach Resort with a 30MM investment and it shows. This huge complex is located on one of the most desirable white-sand beaches coast know as Bávaro Beach. It contains what is, by some definitions, the largest meeting and convention center in Latin America. The complex is divided in two hotels, Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe with 1,402 rooms designed for families and Barcelo Bavaro Beach of 589 rooms for Adults Only. We went into their wonderful Spa and had a hard time not staying for treatments and pampering lol! Lunch at Barcelo Bávaro Beach Resort was delightful and delicious
We spent our last night at IFA Villas Bávaro Resort and Spa for a great dinner with friends from local press followed by an invite to their nightly show “Caribe Siempre Tuyo” where Dominican singers and dancers took us through a mega entertaining musical journey of salsa, merengue, bachata and samba wepa!
I found peace, fun, true friendship and new learnings during this amazing trip to the island called Dominican Republic. Thank you Yaniris and Prudy for an outstanding press trip and my love to traveling girlfriends, Ana, Dania, Denise, Lorraine, Maura and their families. Las quiero mucho chicas ♥!
