Into The Woods is based on a musical by Stephen Sondheim and it seems to me that we will be talking about this movie for the next award season that just started. How can we be so sure about this?
1- Rob Marshall, the Director was very successful with another movie musical “Chicago” this time, the critics acclaimed his work adapting Into the Woods to the screen.
2- It’s already nominated for the Golden Globes and we all know that the Globes sets the tone for the entire award season.
3- Into The Woods the Broadway musical was very successful and the movie kept the essence of it.
4- Meryl Streep is once again superb as The Witch. And for the first time is singing, let me tell you, her voice is something unexpected.
But what is the plot about? Into The Wood intertwines few of the most famous fairytales that we all know: Cinderella, Rapunzel, The Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk with new characters as the baker and his wife and the other Prince. With a touch of funny moments, music all the time (Of course is a musical!) and some modern details that the public will enjoy. And if you are smart enough you will be learn something too…
The cast: Meryl Streep (The witch), Emily Blunt (The baker’s wife), James Corden (The baker), Anna Kendrick (Cinderella), Chris Pine (Prince charmin), Tracey Ullman (Jack’s mother), Christine Baranski (Cinderella’s stepmother), Lilla Crawford (The Little Red Riding Hood), Daniel Huttlestone (Jack), MacKenzie Mauzy, Billy Magnussen, and Johnny Depp (The Big Bad Wolf). Inspired by the Grimm Brothers‘ fairy tales of “Little Red Riding Hood“, “Cinderella“, “Jack and the Beanstalk“, and “Rapunzel“.
I was invited to meet Makenzie Mauzy (“Rapunzel”) and Billy Magnussen (“The Other Prince”) to learn details about this new fairy tale couple. Billy is well known in Broadway and was nominated for a Tony award.
Now please go and see the movie and share your reviews and thoughts with me!
