It’s been 17 years since the first wave of Latin artists took over American pop charts in 1999. Thanks to trailblazing artists like Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, and Jennifer Lopez, the way has been paved for the next round of Latinos to create a new Latin explosion.
Now we find ourselves in the midst of a new kind of revolution, one that exceeds borders in a different way than that of 17 years ago. Thanks to the dawn of social media, it’s becoming easier than ever for artists to reach new audiences and form tremendous multi-cultural collaborations that rock the world. As today’s biggest stars of música latina collaborate more and more with viral artists of the Anglo music world—J Balvin + Justin Bieber (“Sorry” Remix), Shakira + Rihanna (“Can’t Remember to Forget You”), Pitbull + Ne-Yo (“Give Me Everything”)—the gap between the Latin and Anglo music industries closes, one song at a time. ¡Qué cool!
Evidence of this trend will come to light once again on the night of Univision’s Premio Lo Nuestro 2016. For the first time ever, “Blurred Lines” singer Robin Thicke will be performing on the Premio Lo Nuestro stage. Alongside Pitbull and Joe Perry, the lead guitarist from American rock band Aerosmith, they will form the highly anticipated opening act as they debut the new single “Bad Men.”
Web City Girls is honored to return to the Red Carpet at Premio Lo Nuestro and will get to experience this excitement first hand, witnessing super stellar performances like the unprecedented opening act.
