Tyler Perry’s The Passion airs live on FOX this Sunday night at 8 PM ET. Perfect to watch with the whole family, the two-hour event is a modern-day retelling of the story of Jesus Christ’s last hours on Earth and will take place in New Orleans, host and narrator Perry’s hometown.
Long before its arrival in the United States, The Passion was a hit in the Netherlands, where it has been produced every year since 2011. The U.S. adaptation will be filmed at nine locations in NOLA in front of a 25,000-member audience and will feature a procession of 1,000 people walking through the streets of the city with a cross. While most of the scenes will be filmed live, certain scenes had to be pre-taped due to the scale of the event.
And, since the story is set in modern day, the show requires modern music, doesn’t it? The soundtrack is available for sale starting today and includes hits from top-notch artists like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Train, all sung by The Passion cast, as well as original songs written specifically for the event.
Y we’re soooooo excited that dos de nuestros artistas latinos favoritos—Prince Royce y Jencarlos Canela—are part of this special event! Canela, who recently made his American television debut on NBC’s Telenovela, plays the role of Jesus, while Prince Royce, fresh off the success of his first English-language album Double Vision, plays Peter. ¡Qué talento!
The TV special can also be streamed live on Fox.com or FOX NOW mobile apps, starting with exclusive pre-show on Sunday night at 7:30 PM ET/6:30 CT, and will be available On Demand after air starting March 21st.
