Maluma, Colombia’s 22-year-old sensation, has rocketed into fame at what seems like the speed of light. With nearly 13 million followers on Instagram, almost 20 million Friends on Facebook, and a slew of award nominations and wins, el “Pretty Boy Dirty Boy” is here to stay!
WebCityGirls first met and interviewed him at the 2013 Latin Grammys. He was adorable and very excited for his Latin Grammy nomination as Best New Artist. We also got to do Maluma LIVE Interview in 2014. For all of our #Malumaniaticas out there, here’s a list of 5 reasons why we love him.
1. His remixes.
Maluma’s remixes están ON FIRE! His addition to “Ella Es Mi Fiesta” (de Carlos Vives) y “Algo Brilla En Mí” (de Natalia Jiménez) takes these already perfect songs to the next level.
2. He’s an amazing mentor on La Voz Kids
As a mentor for Natalia Jiménez’s team on La Voz Kids and as a winning coach on La Voz Kids Colombia, Maluma has helped dreams come true by offering his wealth of industry expertise to the talented young contestants.
3. Pretty Boy Dirty Boy shows us a new side of his artistic personality
While his well-loved, edgy “Dirty Boy” side is flawless on tracks such as “Borro Cassette” and “Recuérdame,” we can’t help but love this new romantic “Pretty Boy” side even more, which shines on “Vuelo Hacia el Olvido” and on the duet “Tengo Un Amor” (featuring bachatera Leslie Grace). The album, his first to be physically released in the United States, debuted at No. 1 on iTunes in Latin America and also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.
4. His performance in tribute to Celia Cruz at the first ever Latin AMAs was on point
With musical influences like Hector Lavoe, it’s no wonder that Maluma was asked to take part in the musical tribute to the legendary Cuban salsa singer Celia Cruz, which coincided with the premiere of Telemundo’s mini series inspired by Cruz’s life. He put his blazing urban spin on “La Negra Tiene Tumbao” for the tribute (performance starts at 5:46 in the below video). We want to see more salsa from you, Maluma!
5. His style is impeccable
There is no question that Maluma is a trendsetter. He put that spot-on fashion sense to good use for his clothing line Maluma by Amelissa, which is available in Colombia.
