Now we’re in September, fall really is right around the corner. Are you ready for the season ahead? After a long summer, there are a few pieces that you might have to pick up for your wardrobe and home on your next shopping trip. Here are some of the items to consider!
Coats and Jackets
Fall is chilly but without the same biting cold as winter. This means it’s a great time of year for cute, fashionable coats. You can choose style over warmth since only a thin layer is needed to protect from the chill. A classic fitted mac will never go out of style and is something you can wear year and after year. A style that cinches the waist while skimming the hips looks ultra flattering on any figure, so a great fall staple for most women. Choose a length that takes your height into account, and a hemline sits at a comfortable place on your body. Some styles can look either too long or short on different heights. A trench coat is another timeless piece that works well for the fall. Throw on over jeans and Converse for a trendy, casual daytime look. Longline ‘boyfriend cardigans’ are also a great casual staple for this time of year, as we’re transitioning from warmer to cooler weather.
Time to retire the strappy sandals and dainty shoes, fall is the time for boots! A pair of heeled boots looks great over skinny jeans for the evening, or some flat Chelsea or combat boots for your everyday outfits. A good pair of wellies will also serve you well over the coming seasons. There are some higher end brands out there that have made wellies into more of a fashion boot, so there’s no better way to keep your feet warm and dry! Perfect for muddy nature walks or for walking your dogs.
Long Sleeve Dresses, Tights and Leggings
Casual long sleeve dresses are perfect for fall. Wear with thick tights or leggings, boots and a jacket for a comfortable and easy to wear outfit. If you choose plainer designs, you can dress them up or down easily and completely change how they look with accessories. Swing dresses, jumper dresses and skater dresses look good on a range of different body shapes so make perfect fall wardrobe staples. A quick and easy outfit to put together and will last you right the way through to the winter.
Scarves, Hats and Gloves
Cozy knits make an outfit instantly look more seasonally appropriate for the colder months. These are also a good way to add some interest to plain or dark colored outfits. You could opt for a bright color or something with a pattern to liven things up. A great fashion essential as well as being warm and cozy for when it’s cold outside. If you can’t keep off your phone (and let’s be honest, most of us are guilty of this!), you could purchase smartphone gloves. Or mittens with a flap, so you can quickly press the screen without having to completely remove a glove every time!
Darker Makeup Shades
Fall is the time you can get dark and vampy with your makeup, even in the daytime. Reds, berries, maroons and dark neutrals all look fantastic on the lips. For nails you can rock anything from navy to camo green to black- anything goes at this time of year. The darker the better! When you’re wearing a darker lip shade it’s advisable to go more neutral on the eyes; you could leave them bare and just go for plenty of black mascara. Alternatively you could go for warm brown, gold and copper eyeshadow for a neutral smokey eye. Finish with jet black liner for a cool trendy look. If you go for a neutral eyeshadow palette containing a mixture of different colors it will give you plenty of variation. For bigger budgets head to a department store for the higher end brands, if you’re planning on keeping it inexpensive the high street have some incredible offerings.
Skincare and Pampering Beauty Products
In the fall our skin has different needs. The drop in temperature and use of central heating can make skin feel dry and sensitive. And so switching out your light summer moisturizers with something richer and more intensive is a good idea. Hydrating oils and rich skin butters help to replenish and restore skin that can become stripped of goodness in colder weather. Since fall and winter are the seasons for pampering and relaxing baths, it won’t hurt to make sure you’re all stocked up in products too. Bath bombs, bubble bath and face masks all make for a fabulous relaxing bath then the weather is cold outside.
The cooler evenings and nights mean it’s time to switch out the light cotton nightwear for something more snug and warm. Long sleeve tops with full-length pajama bottoms will keep you extra toasty. Don’t forget a warm nightgown, some slippers and lots of pairs of fluffy socks!
There’s no quicker way to put you in a festive, autumnal mood than by lighting a scented candle. The warming smell of fruits, spices and vanilla will instantly have you feeling cozy. Lots of different brands stock them so keep an eye out for your favorite fall scents. As well as the beautiful aroma, you also get an amazing ambiance from candles. The flickering light makes the room look fantastic when you’re relaxing in the evening.
To really get into the swing of fall, how about adding a few decorative pieces to your home? It could be a fall wreath, some ornaments or even be a case of changing up your color scheme. For example, you could switch out throws and cushion covers for autumnal colors and patterns. Tartans, reds and oranges for a subtle nod to the season. You could also buy some fresh, seasonal flowers to display in your home.
Are you ready for the fall? Or will you be going on a shopping spree in the near future?
