Evita Distracciones, Todo Puede Esperar

Everyone Should Have a Mentor

Everyone Should Have a Mentor

I have been so blessed to have the opportunity to work as a social media influencer. I get to meet many people and have established some wonderful relationships. One of the things that I like the most about social media is that it encourages you to concentrate in subjects that you are passionate about. I absolutely love children and I’m always looking for ways to bring out the best in them, to let them know that they are loved and that they matter. I love taking advantage of teachable moments, encouraging them to make good choices. That is why when I first heard that Sprint partnered with ASPIRA of Florida, to launch the Sprint Mobile Mentorship Program at the Hispanicize conference last year where they were asking notable influencers to help champion Latino Youth by becoming a Mobile Mentor, I just had to jump on that. Talking about good choices, this was a great one for me. Nailah Allen my mentee and I: Nailah Allen is an outstanding mentee from Aspira DE/CO Charter School, she is a super sweet 14 year old who always looks at the bright side of everything and as a matter of fact she is a straight A student. She told me that she would like to attend the best High School that will better prepare her for college. How’s that for the wishes of a young adolescent girl? We talked about her 8th grade “Prom” party coming up and when I asked her what color dress she was wearing for the “Big Party”, she said that she hadn’t bought her outfit yet. I decided to contact Ms. Emma the Activity Director from Aspira and I asked her if she knew how many of the kids had already purchased their suits or gowns. She said that many of the students were not going to buy anything new, because parents couldn’t afford to buy them a new outfit. Inspired by JCPenney participation with “Yes to the Prom” a program designed to build courage and self-confidence among young women. I reached out to them to get as many students a special outfit for their exclusive night. Here is the video story of this wonderful experience with JCPenney: I wanted the kids to feel confident about themselves and to have a really fun time. I want them to feel loved and to know that there are people who really care about them and want them to succeed in life. Congratulations to the 2016 Graduating Class from Aspira Arts Deco, you have a great future ahead of you. I am here for you if you ever want to talk or need a shoulder to cry on. God bless...

How to Plan an Awesome Birthday Party for Your Teenage Daughter

How to Plan an Awesome Birthday Party for Your Teenage Daughter

Teenage girls can be really picky, especially when it comes to things to do with their friends. Being a teenager is hard, and if they do something deemed ‘uncool’ it can feel like the end of the world. If your teenage daughter wants a party for her next birthday, then you’re both going to need to work together to have a party you’re both happy with. She’s growing up; you need to remember that she won’t want to be treated like a baby. This means that clowns and face painters are probably out of the question! Take some tips from this guide to plan an awesome birthday party for your teenage daughter: Get Her to Write Out a Guest List As it’s your daughter’s party, she should have a lot of say in who attends. You can look over the guest list and make any final cuts if you need to of course, but making sure her best friends are there with her will make it a much better party for her. Plus, once you have the guest list you can start to plan other things. The guest list might dictate the size of the venue, how much food you need, etc. Decide Where to Host it Where will you host the party? You could have it at your own house, but you need to bear in mind the clean up there will be afterwards. Also, you run the risk of things getting broken or damaged if you’re not careful. Having it at a hall or somewhere like that could be better for your peace of mind. Make sure the venue will fit all of the guests in as well as any vendors you might be hiring for the day. Keep the Food Simple Keeping the food simple is a really good idea when it comes to teenagers. If you do too much food, it’s likely that lots of it will get wasted. Plus, they’re not kids; you don’t want sandwiches, crisps and chocolate. Why not have a pizza party with a chocolate fountain or something? Ordering in pizza is so much easier than preparing lots of different things. They’ll probably appreciate it much more too! If not pizza, then another treat food you can order in instead.   If you have the budget, why not surprise your daughter and her friends with luxury transport to the party? To get an idea of what you’d be spending, look at http://www.americanlimos.org/rates/. She’ll love arriving in style in front of all her of her friends. Go Outfit Shopping Your teenager is going to want to look amazing for her party, but...

My Date for Valentine’s Day is ……

My Date for Valentine’s Day is ……

Myself. February only means one thing to most people – Valentine’s Day. With only days left for this holiday, couples obsess over the perfect gift. Everyone else outside this pool is Single and unless you have a significant other, this holiday is nothing but a reminder that you are alone – Or is it? Being single means that you are FREE; Literally! Being single means no angry calls from a significant other because you stayed out late on a Tuesday night. It means not having to worry about scheduling plans accordingly to someone else’s time. No fights, no restrictions, no worries. I have been single for the past year and it’s been miraculous ride. And I’m coming from a 5 year relationship. Don’t get me wrong, I had delightful times with my ex-boyfriend but he is an ex for a reason. We spent 5 years together, but the timing wasn’t right. In this short time, I’ve learned so much about myself and I’m happier for it. Since becoming single, I’ve visited a couple states, gone camping, read and finished a book, caught up on my favorite TV series, rekindled old friendships and also made new ones. FRIENDS! The number of friends you miss on while dating is unforgivable! Being single has paved the way for new opportunities such as interning for webcitygirls// . I am part of a fearless group of women and for that I am grateful. They’ve taught me how to work and play so that we are always enjoying our jobs. Being single has brought more joy into my life. While dating, I was so focused on every argument and every moment of insecurity that comes with it. Now I am more confident; more self-reliant. I’ve finally seen how much potential I have when putting my mind onto something other than a boyfriend. I am more outgoing now, more optimistic and I laugh more. Taking life too seriously is a waste of time when you can be enjoying it with friends and family – or even alone. I value my alone time more than ever now. Being single gives you the time to be by yourself, with yourself. This is a time of reflection and tranquility. If you understand yourself first, you can understand others better and build stronger relationships with those you love. And if love finds its way to me, I’ll embrace it. In the meantime, I am happy to be single. And to all my single ladies – Put your hands up and wave goodbye to the old you. This is your time. Take it....

One Door Closes Another One Opens: When Ally met Lynn

One Door Closes Another One Opens: When Ally met Lynn

Social media has become such an innovative gateway for networking and engagement. I am a testimony of it as I have landed one of the best internships in Miami with Web City Girls. In February 2014 I competed for the title of Miss Carnaval Miami where Lynn Ponder, founder of Web City Girls attended as a judge. Unfortunately I did not win, but when one door closes another one opens. I found WCG through an Instagram picture where I recognized Lynn. I immediately followed them because I loved their concept of transmitting positive entertainment news and of course their signature look, pink wigs. Months passed by and one day as I scrolled through my account there it was a contest entry from WCG announcing they were looking for the next #MiamiPinkGirl. The #MiamiPinkGirl would have the opportunity to interview celebrities on the red carpet, grasp knowledge about social media, meet movers and shakers from the entertainment industry and become a part of this well-respected company. Among the key things you had to do was post a 15 second Instagram video of yourself interviewing a “celebrity“ and have a positive point of view of life. I got a group of my friends, made the video and posted it that same night. The rest is history. My interview with Plan B: Through WCG I have gotten the opportunity to be a web reporter on the Premios Juventud Carpet, dress from renown designer Viviana Gabeiras and beauty glam by celebrity stylist Leonardo Rocco owner of Rocco Donna. Lynn has been a great teacher guiding me as I got to interview artists such as Luis Coronel, Carlos Vives, Maluma, Reykon El Lider, Erika Ender, Plan B and many more in just a time span of 3 months. I am extremely grateful to have Lynn Ponder as an example of what a top Web Blogger/Reporter/Professional should be. She exemplifies the definition of hardwork, dedication, perseverance and most importantly passion. Another fun interview with Erika Ender: As I continue my studies at FIU for Broadcast Journalism I will make sure to use my experiences learned here from WCG into my work ethic. For now I’m just excited to see what the future holds on my journey as #MiamiPinkGirl. I invite you to follow my adventures with Web City Girls via my Twitter and Instagram xo!...
