LATISM 2016 “Latinos as Agents of Change”

With a central theme of “Latinos as Agents of Change,” I have said it before and this year is no different, LATISM is the only conference that has a soul. It has a soul not only because of the volunteers that create it together with founder Ana Roca, but also because of the people that attend who truly want to learn, connect, be inspired, and share their passion. LATISM reunites yearly to bring together innovative thinkers, technologists, experts and influencers to start ideas and form partnerships and plans. Speakers focus on education, technology, best practices, new tools, trends, funding and partnerships, teaching the audience how to deliver results and create sustainable communities using the power of social media to make a positive impact in people’s lives. In addition, there is a STEAM Fair about how the new generation is contributing to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. The Fair offers Coding, Parent Advocacy and College Readiness Workshops, plus a Hackathon Demo Day with a group of young brilliant makers developing real solutions to real problems affecting the Latino community through the creation of apps. This year, one of the panels that impacted me most was “Latinas Creating Wealth” with several powerhouse Latinas like Lili Gil Valleta, who presented an amazing opportunity for Latinos and her latest venture HSN Project American Dreams Searching Latino Inventors, a business competition. Also speaking on the panel were Lucienne Gigante and Marta Michelle Colon, who introduced us to Access Latina, a non-profit organization that looks to bring together Latina entrepreneurs with the capital resources they need, including access to networks and mentoring. Cathy Hackly, Borja Perez, Erick Lorenzo and Gabriel Sama conducted an eye-opening look into “The Future of Storytelling: From Live Video to Virtual Reality & 360 Degree Video,” where I learned how VR will become more accessible to consumers and how it is changing the way we communicate and create content online. I also had a great experience as speaker in two different panels: “Influencer2Brand” and “Building your Brand”. LATISM Conference incorporates the Top Influencers Retreat, which was originally created in 2012 in Washington DC. I have had the privilege of being selected among the Top 100 Digital influencers every year to this date. It is a full day of training that includes behind-the-scenes education with mentors as well as a wonderful networking opportunity. This year LATISM 2016 Awards Best in Tech Innovation and Social Media was very special, as I was nominated Best Latina Network Leader beside outstanding nominees Ana Flores and Yadira Ambert. I was honored to WIN and I was told that I got tons of votes!!! 2016 Influencers...

Chicas, did you know that the dragonfly experiences una transformación maravillosa from nymph to winged beauty, and not only maintains flawless balance while in flight, but also maintains perfect horizontal balance while at rest? This beautiful balance and profound metamorphosis, which Palacios couples to that of human beings in her book The Beauty of Knowing How to Live, has both intrigued her and propelled her career, beginning on that night in 1986 when she wore two dragonflies pinned to her gala dress during the Miss Universe pageant. The majestic flight of the dragonfly now finds its fashion translation in her stunning collection at the hands of Gabeiras, who combines vibrant colors like magenta, turquoise, tangerine yellow, white, and black in a beautiful print. Girl’s Guide To Vitamins at Every Age

Girl’s Guide To Vitamins at Every Age

Ladies please read this informative article related to our movement #BeNumberless, because without healthy positive energy we cannot be unstoppable, fundamental to have good health. Vitamins are organic substances that are essential for the function of cells, organs and the immune system and are a major source of energy. At what age do we need certain vitamins?  Here’s your guide to vitamins at every age according to Dr. Christopher Calapai D.O. an NYC anti-aging physician who has been called, “The Stem Cell Guru.” Dr. Calapai has been testing vitamin levels throughout his career. Each of his patients receives a blood test to find out what they are deficient in. In a perfect world, all of our nutrient needs would come from the best source: Food. However if your diet isn’t text book perfect then take your “nutritional insurance” a.k.a. a multivitamin, suggests Dr. Calapai.  “Research shows taking a well-balanced multivitamin throughout your lifespan helps fill in nutritional gaps in your diet.” In your 20s and 30s • Calcium: These are the decades to bone up, as in, maintain your bone mass. Dr. Calapai recommends adults aged 19-50 years take 1,000 milligrams of calcium, daily. If you don’t receive enough calcium from your diet, you may need to take a supplement containing elemental calcium. Elemental calcium refers to the actual amount of calcium in a supplement that’s available for your body to absorb—the rest are compounds making up the supplement. But when supplementing your calcium, read the labels carefully. “For example, if you buy tablets such as calcium carbonate, each tablet contains 1,250 milligrams of calcium,” he says. “Unfortunately, only 500 milligrams is elemental calcium.” • Vitamin D: The reason we’re severely lacking vitamin D nowadays, much more so than even our parents were, is because we’re missing out on the number-one source of vitamin D: The sun. “Vitamin D is a pro-hormone made in the skin upon exposure to sunlight, and production of it is rapid and robust,”. “Within 10 to 20 minutes without wearing sunscreen, people make between 10,000 and 20,000 IU. But because of widespread sunscreen use, total sun avoidance, and our increasingly indoor lifestyles, our vitamin D levels have fallen drastically.” Dr. Calapai says, “Take at least 2,000 IU per day year-round. And although you technically don’t need to supplement on the days that you know you’ll be outside when the sun is high, it’s just easier to take it every day than to try to remember when and not to.” • Folic Acid: For women in their childbearing years, folic acid is recommended if you’re planning on conceiving anytime soon. “You should take it before you get pregnant to ensure your levels are high because low rates of folic acid...

#BeNumberless Inspires Me

#BeNumberless Inspires Me

At the end of March this year just before my birthday I came across a live video of Maria Marin where Lynn Ponder was a special guest that day. In that episode Lynn Ponder mentioned the #Secret that she was going to reveal on April 7. The #Secret caught my attention because it made me think of the movie The Secret and the Law of Attraction which I have been studying for many years. Her pink wig and the #Secret led me to find out more about Lynn Ponder and follow WebCityGirls, not only on Facebook but on Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat too. When I saw that Gaby Espino was supporting Lynn Ponder and the #Secret, I was interested even more because Gaby Espino is a beautiful woman that I admire a lot. April 7 arrived and when I discovered that the #Secret was about a concept called #BeNumberless, I felt very inspired and identified with the movement because even though I have a young spirit and feel that my life is just beginning, I realized that as time passes people begin to judge you by your age. Once you reach a certain age they look at you differently, they put you in a square box and have expectations of you based on the opinion of others, and that’s when I began to hide my age. #BeNumberless inspires me because I believe that no one should be judged by their age or their weight, or any other number that can be attributed. We all came into this world with talent and a purpose in life that goes beyond a number. Let me share a dream called Another Mind Magazine which came from an idea I had 13 years ago when seeking to help other people like me to find their own identity. But it was not until 10 years later that I was able to see my idea take shape with the help of friend Vinicio Henriquez Photographer when together we created the concept of what this magazine is today. We are two people of different generations united with a common purpose, and it was the need to overcome the stigma of being either too old or too young that led us to seek an alternative way of overcoming our obstacles while helping others. As we noticed how society tends to limit people’s job opportunities based on one’s age. And now that my daughters are already becoming young ladies, I feel the need to pave the way and contribute to society by creating a place where I can give them and other young people the tools to see that they have other...

Is Beauty A State Of Mind?

So many people believe that beauty is on the outside. That you have to look like the next top model or somebody out of a magazine to be beautiful. This isn’t true! The truth is, beauty comes from within. It might sound cliche, but if you feel beautiful on the inside, you’re going to look even better on the outside. There are many people out there who don’t quite fit into society’s standards of beauty, but believe they are beautiful. These people have large followings on Instagram and social media, all because they have an infectious attitude and inspire others to feel the same way about themselves. Beauty is definitely a state of mind! So, how can you get into the same state of mind? Read on to learn more… Focus On The Things You Love About Yourself Instead of obsessing over the things you don’t like, start focusing on the things you love. Many of us zone in on the things we hate each day, stopping us from seeing the bigger picture and those things that make us unique. Make a list of things you love about yourself, and the things you’re grateful for. This could be your dimples, sense of humour, or great nails. Make the list as long as you can, and add to it regularly! Read this list every day. You can easily reprogram your brain to think more positively and focus on the good things by doing this. It should only take you a few weeks! You can also try to turn negatives into positives. If you don’t like your legs, you could change it to a positive by being thankful for how they take you everywhere you need to go. Wear Clothes That Make You Feel Amazing Some people say the things we wear don’t matter that much, but they actually do when you’re hoping to change your mindset. If you wear clothes that you don’t really like each day, you’re not going to have the best outlook. By making sure your clothes are flattering and a style you really like, you might just begin to see the world as a better place. Science has shown they affect our mood, so don’t hesitate to have a wardrobe overhaul! Make Your Health A Priority Start putting your health first. Far too many people focus on beauty rather than health. Focus on making your body and mind as healthy as possible, and beauty will naturally follow. You can do this by getting exercise where you can, and eating foods that the body craves. Pamper Yourself Take the time to pamper yourself. You’re worth it! Do...
