2016 Trends with Sheryl Connelly

Meet Sheryl Connelly, Manager, Global Consumer Trends and Futuring, Ford Motor Company. Sheryl insights helps Ford make the right calls about simplifying the process of buying a car and providing exactly what car buyers really need. I had the pleasure meeting Sheryl through my relationship with Ford as a social media influencer and recently I spoke to her about the meaning of tracking trends for Ford. She is a brilliant woman who has perfected the skill to bring in lots of different information happening in the world, figure out futuristic trends and make sense of them at a micro and macro level. Sheryl what are the newest trends at Ford? At Ford we talk about two type of trends: MACRO Trends – which are the global big picture, big impact trendsetter slow moving that include things like aging population, rise in urban city, obesity worldwide. They are slow moving and will be around for 2 ,3, 4 decades. We also try to watch for other things of the spectrum, things that are emerging and we call those MICRO Trends. We call them MICRO Trends because they have a shorter shelf life from 2 to 4 years. Some of the MICRO trends will grow old and become strong MACRO Trends. Only time will tell. Sheryl talked with excitement about the fourth annual edition of Ford MICRO Trends, a compilation of the most compelling movements across the globe that are shaping how we live, work and engage with the world around us. She shared the focus on 2016 themes of inspiration, ingenuity and a strengthened sense of self-identity. A trend that I loved hearing about was inspiration, which came from embracing heroes among communities and individuals who were redefining what it meant to be a good citizen, a good neighbor, a good person. The world is hungry for these stories and eager to share them. Please click here to check the amazing 2016 Ford Trends Book. It will give you some incredible insights of how our world is moving forward and how this collection of trends helps Ford look beyond the auto industry to comprehend what’s happening in social, technological, economic, environmental and political arenas, and creates a blueprint to understand how these trends are expected to influence products and brands for the next year and beyond.   Learning and sharing the knowledge! Thank you for stopping by, truly appreciate your time....

#BeNumberless is an Attitude

It is not easy to be an immigrant, not at all. And the “older” we are when we migrate, the more difficult it gets. My name is Claudia LaRue and I discovered webcitygirls MOVEMENT #BeNumberless on Facebook. I have been living in the United States for several years, and the truth is that this move has been quite challenging. Without a doubt, when trying to enter the labor market, this is when we become aware of the biases that exist when a person over 35 years old applies for a job. In her book Unfinished Business, Anne-Marie Slaughter advocates a cultural shift in which the professional experience women gain over the years is better valued. Ms. Slaughter proposes that women with grown children have a lot more time to invest in their careers. As an example, she cites Hillary Clinton, who has a long professional history and the necessary time to dedicate it to serving her country. Without a doubt, experience cannot be improvised. I support the #BeNumberless Movement because it seeks to lay aside biases, so that we can focus on people. There is a lot of talk these days about “personal brands.” Now that I am building my personal brand, I am focusing in what I am, in what I want to accomplish and what I want my contribution to this world to be. And I will not be a number. This attitude has filled me with optimism, and I am convinced that this will keep opening doors for me. This does not mean that we will be making ourselves younger, or to pretend to be what we are not. It means that will not let ourselves be trapped, limited or defined by a number. We are more than that, much more. I am numberless because I am worth much more! And now is the time for society to realize this....

#BeNumberless: A 20-Something’s POV

#BeNumberless: A 20-Something’s POV

Have you ever been judged for your age? I’m sure you have, even without realizing it at times, I bet. I’ve experienced it myself and I know many other women who have as well. Unfortunately, age has come to dictate what we’re allowed to do or even what knowledge we’re allowed to have in our minds. That statement “You’re too young” is an ever-present barrier to expanding our worldview. It has become a factor in everything we do, but we have sadly allowed ourselves to continue to believe this antiquated societal rule. Going to college, starting a career, getting married, having kids…EVERYTHING is dictated by age. The older we get, it seems, the less of a chance we are given to accomplish those goals. So, in addition to hearing “You’re too young,” we hear “You’re getting too old” too, and that is a phrase heard much too often by women of all ages. But why does age take up so much retail space in our heads? Why is it even relevant anymore? Everyday, women like Lynn Ponder are proving society wrong by defying age stereotypes, fulfilling their greatest dreams while doing so. This should become the NEW norm, but in order for that to happen, action must be taken. Nothing can be perpetuated unless there are people reinforcing it. That’s why, as a 20-something woman and graduate of a feminist-oriented college in this (still) patriarchal society, I fully support the #BeNumberless movement with the hope that it can change the age-centered mentality directed towards women and shift that focus instead to our present. Age reflects the past and all the time left behind, but life should be lived in the present, shouldn’t it? Why limit ourselves by a number that doesn’t represent who we truly are? The #BeNumberless movement is a critical step in the advancement of women in our society where judgment and stereotypes rule. It will empower us to fulfill our potential and will serve as a daily reminder that we can achieve anything without worrying how our age will be perceived while we fight for our dreams. Set that number aside. #BeNumberless. You just might change the world....

Gracias ❤...
