3 Types of Cloud Computing Development

Insights

Although referred to often, very few people know what the “cloud” actually is. The cloud is a combination of software and services that allows the Internet’s storage capacity and processing power to be available across the entire Internet. Structured similarly to traditional computing software, cloud computing software depends upon physical server hardware. As a result, cloud computing is especially useful for remote organizations, as employees can access complex networks from any connection or location. Cloud deployment is the process of implementing a specific cloud platform, such as a public cloud, a private cloud, a hybrid cloud, or a community cloud.

Public Cloud

Most commonly used for collaborative projects, public clouds usually have large amounts of space, making them easy to scale on a near-infinite level. Additionally, public clouds are versatile and relatively inexpensive when it comes to augmenting the system. Public clouds are very appealing to the general public as customers do not have to perform any maintenance (the provider takes care of that). Unfortunately, the infrastructure of a public cloud does not allow customers to control any aspect of the platform, putting them at risk for security vulnerability and asset loss.

Private Cloud

Private clouds are made up of cloud computing resources used by a particular organization or business. Private clouds are always maintained on private networks and are only accessible by and through the organization. As such, private clouds tend to appeal to financial agencies and government institutions because they offer a completely controlled, micromanaged environment. Additionally, organizations are able to customize and scale their cloud software according to their needs.

Hybrid Cloud

Hybrid clouds, as the name suggests, are a combination of public and private clouds. Hybrid clouds allow public and private clouds to interact without limitations and transfer data and applications without errors. Depending upon industry size, businesses may use hybrid clouds to appeal to certain customers. Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Salesforce are examples of outsourced, non-critical applications that may need to be accessed through a hybrid cloud. Hybrid clouds can be scaled like public clouds while maintaining the control and security of public clouds. Most healthcare industries use hybrid clouds, as they can perform complicated algorithms while still adhering to data privacy regulations.
